Carlos AraCarlos Ara

Senior Associate, Cuatrecases

A senior associate in the Litigation Practice and qualified to practice in Spain and in the State of New York, Mr. Ara specializes in cross-border restructuring and insolvency (both out-of-court workouts and judicial proceedings). He is an expert in European and Spanish insolvency law, with extensive experience in advising lenders, debtors, directors, and bidders in high-profile cases across almost all industries.

He regularly collaborates in structuring transactions to address potential litigation and insolvency issues. Recent work includes loan-to-own transactions and cross-border rescue financings, to tackle new money privileges, as well as clawback and automatic stay risks.

As a litigator, Mr. Ara also has experience in security interests, directors’ fiduciary duties, and corporate and M&A-related disputes.

Dewin den BoerEdwin den Boer

Partner, BDO Advisory

Edwin has worked at BDO since September 1992. From 2002 as a partner at BDO Advisory and is involved in restructuring and return improvement processes. Together with entrepreneurs and management, he works on improving the results and restoring the company or organization.

His background lies in the field of business economics with specializations in marketing and market research. He is also a registered accountant. With his creative and pragmatic adaptation he knows how to solve the most complex yield issues. He keeps an overview and works closely with experts in various fields.


Sander de BruijnSander de Bruijn

Lead Security Expert / Co-founder, ING Digital Trust

Sander de Bruijn has worked for ING Wholesale Banking for nearly 20 years, mostly in product management and subject matter expert roles. During the first part of his career, he was responsible for the development and commercial roll-out of online banking solutions for the corporate market. Later on focusing on and specializing in (cyber) security and fraud prevention. In 2011 he became responsible for prevention, detection and response regarding (cyber-)fraud within Wholesale Banking’s Transactions Services domain. As well as a member of ING Group’s Cyber Crime Expert and Response Team.

As 2017 Sander is the co-founder and Lead Security Expert of ING Digital Trust, a start-up that originated in one of ING’s Innovation Accelerators. Digital Trust develops need based solutions in cyber security and recently launched its first product Wyse. Wyse is a solution that aims to solve the number one risk in cyber security, the human element, by changing employee’s behaviour in a fun and engaging way.

Rashmi has been involved in the turnaround industry for a number of years, winning the Corporate International Global Award - Business Turnaround Lawyer of the Year in 2014 and 2016. She is president of the TMA NextGen North committee in the UK and co-chaired the TMA Europe Conference in 2017.

Lukas FeckerDr Lukas Fecker

Dr. Lukas Fecker specialises in Turnaround Management for global Financial Services and commodities clients with an emphasis on Restructuring and M&A. He has held several CRO, CEO and board positions in restructuring situations; responsible for strategy, delivery and investor reporting. His advisory career has spanned Accenture, Alvarez & Marsal and KPMG as a Partner in their UK Transactions and Restructuring practice, before leaving to start his own firm.

Among his achievements is the appointment by the European Commission to monitor the restructuring of the largest bank in a member country.

Lukas is a published author with a strong standing in the Restructuring and Recovery industry and is currently the Vice President International Relations, TMA Global.

Frank GrellFrank Grell

Chair, German Restructuring, Insolvency & Workouts Practice and the German Finance Department

Frank Grell chairs the German Restructuring, Insolvency & Workouts Practice and the German Finance Department. His practice focuses on insolvency and restructuring, including corporate reorganizations, debt restructuring, and out-of-court and in-court representation of creditors of distressed companies and investors in such companies, including, in particular, protective shield/insolvency plan proceedings and loan-to-own strategies.

Mr. Grell advises:

- Companies, management, and shareholders in a financial or operational crisis  
- Creditors in all phases of financial restructurings, including debt-equity swaps, share pledge enforcements, and insolvency plan proceedings 
- Investors on the acquisition of distressed companies and on restructuring, rescue financing, or refinancing transactions 
- Insolvency administrators on M&A, restructurings, or disputes 

JUVE 2016/2017 names him as a “leading name” and “recommended” lawyer for Restructuring and Insolvency as well as “recommended” lawyer for Corporate Law.

In Chambers Europe Germany he is regularly listed as a “key individual” for Restructuring/Insolvency. Mr. Grell is also listed as leading lawyer for Restructuring in Germany by IFLR1000 2017 and The Legal 500 EMEA 2016. The latter also comments: “‘Top lawyer’ Frank Grell is ‘confident’ and ‘a calm negotiator.’” Handelsblatt Best Lawyers 2016 considers him among the “best lawyers” for Restructuring/Insolvency in Germany.

Mr. Grell is a member of the Board of TMA Germany e.V. and of the Advisory Board of Norddeutsches Insolvenzforum e.V. (Insolvency Forum of Northern Germany). He is also a member of INSOL, the International Bar Association, and the Insolvency and Restructuring Working Group of the German Lawyers’ Association. 

He lectures on current insolvency and restructuring issues for a variety of organizations. Mr. Grell has held lectures at Hamburg University and Bucerius Law School as well as at the university in Sofia, Bulgaria. Moreover, he is a regular author of articles on insolvency and restructuring matters published in national and international legal magazines, and business newspapers (including The Economist, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Financier Worldwide, and Markt & Mittelstand). 

Lauren KiralyLauren Kiraly

Entrepreneur; Operational Director, TEDxAmsterdamWomen

Originally from the United States, Lauren has a background in leadership development, change management, organizational design and executive leadership coaching. In her previous roles, she established a Change Management function, facilitated the relocation of Corporate headquarters and led a system-wide organizational redesign. In addition, she oversaw an accelerated leadership development program for individuals stepping directly out of university - a succession pipeline for the C-suite, centered on 21st century leadership skills, which Lauren designed as a teal organization.

For the past 1.5 years, Lauren's been making a new home in the Netherlands. Her passion is women's leadership development, and facilitating transformational change -- at an individual and collective level. Today, she is the Operational Director for TEDxAmsterdamWomen, enrolled in a Master's of Integrated Health Studies, and starting her own company to support professional women lead a potential-led life, including the prevention and recovery from burnout.


Dr Martin KnappMarvin Knapp

Marvin is a member of the firm's global transactions group and practises in the area of restructuring and insolvency. He joined Freshfields in 2009 and is based in the Hamburg office.

Marvin advises corporates and lenders in the context of out-of court and in-court financial restructurings and refinancings. Marvin has a special focus on cross-border and multinational situations with complex capital structures including various types of financial instruments.

During his time at Freshfields, Marvin has also worked in the Frankfurt and Chicago offices of a major investment bank and the London office of Freshfields.

Marvin speaks German, English, Spanish and French.

Leo LansLeo Lans

Account Executive, Fox-IT

Leo Lans joined the Fox-IT Sales team building Information Security Programs for Banking and Insurance industry. Supporting organizations in building an environment to strengthen their Cyber operation. Performing Cyber security Assessments to identify improvements to the overall Incident readiness reducing business impact.

In addition he frequently runs awareness sessions in order to increase attention to the growing threat of Cyber Criminality.

His activities at Fox-IT builds on his background of integrating teams / organizations with the application of analysis capabilities / intelligence in the light of Fraud, Criminal and Terrorist detection. 

To mirror his activities in the cyber security world, Leo plays Jazz Saxophone in a very analogue world.

Ruben LeeuwenburghRuben Leeuwenburgh

Partner, Windt Le Grand Leeuwenburgh

Ruben Leeuwenburgh is a founding partner of Windt Le Grand Leeuwenburgh and specialises in (international) insolvency law and restructurings with a particular focus on distressed debt and commercial real estate portfolios. In this respect, Ruben advises board members, lenders, shareholders, as well as foreign counsels. He regularly lectures on topics relating to insolvency and restructuring. Christine MandersChristine Manders RA

Senior Director, PwC Forensic Services

She has been working as a CPA for about 13 years and now has almost 14 years of experience in the field of fraud, both nationally and internationally. Within this field, she has broad experience in bankruptcy fraud.

As a forensic investigator, she is a member of the insolvency practice of PwC. She developed the CalCurator, an analysis tool that helps insolvency administrators in tracing irregularities in insolvency cases.

Anneliese MoritzAnneliese Moritz

Local Partner – Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner(NOW speaker)

Anneliese Moritz is an attorney admitted to the Paris and São Paulo bars. She has advised for twelve years European investors in their ventures in Brazil, with a special focus in mergers & acquisitions - including distressed M&As - but also in the debt restructuring and insolvency proceedings of subsidiaries of European companies. She has also assisted European creditors in connection with the enforcement of claims in Brazil.

Nick MoserNick Moser

Nick is UK head of Restructuring & Corporate Recovery at Taylor Wessing.  He is rated in Chambers and Legal 500 and has particular experience acting for distressed debt investors in both contentious and non-contentious restructuring and insolvency situations.  Nick is also well known for his work on fraud cases and advising on pensions schemes in corporate restructurings. Mark L OfferhausMark L. Offerhaus

After obtaining a law degree from Leiden University, Mr. Offerhaus joined ING in 1987 as a management trainee.  In 1990, he received a sponsorship from the EU to participate on behalf of ING in the Executive Training Program in Tokyo, an 18-months, full-time post-doctoral program, including 12 months of almost full-time Japanese language training. In 1991, Mr. Offerhaus joined the Board of Directors of ING Life Japan and from 1992 to mid 1995 served as its President. During these years, Mr. Offerhaus was also a Director of the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Japan. From 1995 to 2000, Mark held several executive positions at ING in the Netherlands.

Per 1-1-'1 Mark decided to pursue his passion and made a career switch to the field of biotechnology. In 2005 he established the company Micreos. The company has a long-term collaboration with ETH Zurich, Prof Loessner, and is viewed as the leading player in this exciting new field.


Federica PietrograndeFederica Pietrogrande

As Managing Director, Federica Pietrogrande has both a legal and business role.   

Federica manages Gordon Brothers’ legal strategy in Europe - and supports the international legal strategy.  She works with the business divisions to structure and manage deals, addressing specific legal issues, qualifying, quantifying and mitigating the relevant risks involved. 

Federica is also responsible for the development of Gordon Brothers’ brand investment strategy in Europe, with a specific focus on luxury, fashion, jewellery, cosmetic and design. 

Before joining Gordon Brothers in early 2018, Federica practiced law for 15 years in major international law firms in Italy and abroad, specialising in corporate bankruptcy and restructuring, with a focus on distressed investing and cross-border transactions. She now brings her experience to unlock opportunities in different jurisdictions.

Federica has a law degree from Rome Universita’ La Sapienza and an LL.M in Banking, Corporate and Finance from New York Fordham Law School. 

Federica is a native Italian speaker and fluent in English.

Bas Rookhuijzen is an experienced international business development manager with a track record of 15 year creating valuable partnerships at global enterprises based on the relationship between business and IT.  He clearly sees the value of a culture of innovation in combination with the power of the Cloud. 

Leading Google Clouds Marketing organization in the Benelux, he’s responsible for creating a pipeline of innovative business propositions. Bas is also responsible for the business and the relationship with Google Clouds strategic customers Shell and Ahold Delhaize. Bas joined Google in 2014 as the account executive for large accounts overseeing the representation of Google’s SaaS products and services. Bas is also part of the advisory board of “Xentral Station” a fast growing enterprise IT player. Furthermore, he is also a visiting lecturer at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. The program “Information and Innovation” he has designed together with Nyenrode has been nominated as top four of the most innovative MBA programs in the world by the Association of MBAs (AMBA)

Before joining Google, Bas was managing consultant/account executive at Capgemini for 7 years. At Capgemini he helped customers in their IT transformation strategy and their global sourcing strategies.  

He has worked in Scandinavia, Germany, England, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and India. He also completed his Executive MBA at "Nyenrode Business Universiteit" in Netherlands, Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and the Kellogg Business School in Chicago.  

Joan SteegerDr. Jonas Steeger


Dr. Jonas Steeger is co-founder of Nordantech. He is responsible for the data science department and has extensive knowledge in the field of machine learning and project management. Nordantech uses this know-how to develop intelligent project management software specifically designed for turnarounds. Before his engagement with Nordantech, Jonas worked as a turnaround consultant with KPMG throughout Europe and obtained a Ph.D. in Economics with a focus on econometrics.

Eric van TolEric van Tol

Director of the Fontys University of Applied Science Expertise Centre Big Data and CTO at Advanced Programs

Eric van Tol had different management positions at NCR, Olivetti and Ordina fulfilled, before he founded Andarr; a consulting firm specialized in ICT migrations and transitions of complex infrastructures. He is currently Director of the Fontys University of Applied Science Expertise Centre Big Data, CTO of Advanced Programs, Manager at Floridata (an independent data platform for traders in the horticultural industry) and was recently, driver of the ICT breakthrough project Big Data of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Sasja WintersSasja Winters

Financial Risk Officer, ING

Sasja Winters works for ING Netherlands  in the restructuring and recovery practise of SME companies. Her focus is on managing, advising and guiding clients with an increased credit risk profile. Furthermore she is committee member of TMA Netherlands. Her personal interests are strategic changes, innovation and the question why companies are successful or not. Moto: Dare to think different!
